ICT IN EDUCATION TRAINING PROGRAM

The ICT in Education Training Program provides a range of professional development opportunities for educators. It fills the need of many schools and learning institutions to have a steady access to ICT-related trainings which have been vetted by international scholars and experts.

The ICT in Education Training Program is an ideal complement to technology investments. Before a school or institution makes the important decision to buy new equipment, there is often fear that financial resources will be wasted because the equipment will not be used effectively for their intended purpose. This fear can be dispelled if there is an effective training program that comes together with the new equipment.

1. ICT4E Leadership Training

This one-day program is intended for education leaders: principals, school heads, school administrators and deans. The training highlights the important role of school leaders in creating a conducive environment where technology is effectively used in the teaching and learning process as well as in the school’s administration. Case studies and best practices will be provided to serve as examples.

2. ICT4E Needs Assessment

This diagnostic exercise will determine the e-readiness of institutions and individuals. Using UNESCO’s stages of ICT development in education, this activity will assess whether the institution or the individual is currently at the emerging, applying, infusing or transforming stage. The findings can be used as basis for developing the ICT Plan of the school or division, and mapping the professional development program of teachers and ICT coordinators.

3. ICT4E Infrastructure Planning

Often, schools have no personnel with significant knowledge and experience in assessing, planning, purchasing, and installing the right mix of ICT equipment to create and support an effective teaching and learning environment. As a result, a school makes sporadic ICT purchases instead of basing the acquisition on an integrated plan based on a clear ICT in education vision. This training will open a candid discussion with school leaders and administrators and assess the ICT needs of the school based on their expressed education vision and purpose for using technology. The aim of the ICT infrastructure plan is to present options to school decision-makers, and will be made without any bias to any particular technology or company.

4. ICT4E Institutional Planning

Failing to plan is planning to fail. One of the known factors that separate the best schools from the rest is the presence of a shared vision and strategic plan. A school ICT plan does not have to be complicated and tedious process. This training will guide the stakeholders to develop an ICT in Education Plan.

5. Basic ICT Training and Digital Literacy

Teachers are important stakeholders in any school’s success to effectively integrate ICT in the teaching and learning process. The training will focus on providing the “basics” every teacher should know about ICT including digital literacy using different types of tools such as desktops and mobile technology.

6. ICT Pedagogy Integration

Technology does not have to be integrated at all times when teaching in the classroom. The teacher, however, should know the different tools and strategies available and when it is advantageous to use these. This training will teach participants on the different pedagogies to effectively integrate technology to aid the learning process and raise learning outcomes.

7. ICT Tools and Resources for Teachers

To the many teachers who already received training on ICT-pedagogy integration, their needs have shifted to discovering new and effective tools and ICT resources. Many Filipino teachers relied too much on ICT resource portals from other countries, downloading and adapting them to our national education context. This training will help teachers discover new ICT resources supporting the new K-12 curriculum, locally developed resources promoting indigenous knowledge as well the best “lesson plans” from their fellow Filipino teachers.

8. ICT Learning Management System

The focus of many ICT trainings has been to develop the skills of the teacher to effectively integrate technology in teaching. In schools where massive deployment of ICT devices are happening, classroom learning management is no longer just the responsibility of the teacher. It now entails collaboration between the teacher, the ICT coordinator/network administration and the students. This training is designed for schools that recently procured ICT devices installed with learning management system. The aim of the training is for these schools to immediately realize the benefits of their ICT investments by training teachers and ICT coordinators to use and take advantage of the learning management system.
