School Project Proposal Competition

The overall goal of the school project proposal competition is to encourage schools to present strategies on how they can champion and actively promote financial literacy within their respective schools and possibly in nearby communities with the participation of teachers, students, parents, and community officials.

Contest Mechanics

  1. Qualified participants are public and private elementary schools currently implementing the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Program.
  2. The proposal should detail the school’s plans to implement a school-wide financial literacy project. Each school may submit one (1) proposal.
  3. All entries should follow the prescribed template provided. Main body of the entry must not exceed three (3) pages including the certification section. Use Times New Roman, size 11, and single spacing in Microsoft Word document format.
  4. For the entry to qualify, the certification at the last page should be duly signed and certified by the school principal.
  5. Criteria for judging will be:
    40% - Potential to create a measurable improvement in the understanding and appreciation of financial literacy within the school and possibly in the nearby communities
    30% - Adherence to Cha-Ching money smart principles
    20% - Involvement of different stakeholders from teachers, students, parents and community leaders*
    10% - Uniqueness of concept and creativity
    For a total of 100%
    *The participation of nearby communities, parents, and community officials is not required
    but is greatly encouraged and will be duly considered.
  6. The top three (3) schools with the best entries will receive a cash prize to fund their school-
    wide project to promote financial literacy.*
    First prize PHP 25,000.00
    Second prize PHP 20,000.00
    Third prize PHP 15,000.00
    *Cash prizes will be released through Knowledge Community, Inc.
  7. Winning schools who will receive funding will be required to submit quarterly reports to Pru Life UK on the progress of their planning and implementation of the project. Proper documentation of all stages of the project implementation shall be required including a written report accompanied by photos and/or video clips. The schools warrant the originality of the aforementioned reports, documentation, photos, video clips, and the like and that the same do not breach any intellectual property and legal rights of another person.

Pru Life UK Financial Literacy Educator Award 2017

Pru Life UK seeks to recognize and award the best financial literacy educators currently implementing the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Program in their schools.

Contest Mechanics

  1. Qualified participants are Grade 4 teachers from public and private elementary schools currently implementing the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Program.
  2. Desired characteristics and qualifications from nominated teachers:
    · adopted and modeled money smart concepts in his/her personal life;
    · demonstrated passion and commitment to create positive change in the financial behaviors, attitudes, and values of their students;
    · enhanced their students’ knowledge, understanding, skills, and competencies related to the four (4) money smart concepts of earn, save, spend, and donate;
    · led and guided students on an effective school or student project or enterprise resulting to increased appreciation of financial concepts by the students;
    · demonstrated effective use of Cha-Ching curriculum and teaching materials; and
    · incorporated financial lessons in their teaching in a unique and effective manner using a project-based approach.
  3. A teacher may compete in the Financial Literacy Educator Award category in two ways; either through direct application or nomination.

    Method 1: Direct Application
    Teachers can directly apply for the award by accomplishing the following steps:
    · Fill out the teacher application form.
    · Ask a recommending individual to fill out the recommendation form.
    · Gather other supporting documents (i.e. Digital photos, video links, scanned lesson plans, etc.).

    Note: It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the recommending individual fully accomplishes the recommendation form. The applicant must submit the teacher application form together with the duly accomplished recommendation form and the supporting documents.

    Method 2: Nomination
    Principals, co-teachers, and students who have received consent from their parents/legal guardians can also nominate a teacher for the award by accomplishing the following steps:
    · Fill out the nomination form.
    · Ask the nominated teacher to fill out the teacher application form.
    · Gather other supporting documents (i.e. Digital photos, video links, scanned lesson plans, etc.).

    Note: It is the responsibility of the nominating individual to ensure that the nominated teacher fully accomplishes the teacher application form. The nominating individual must submit the nomination form together with the duly accomplished teacher application form and the supporting documents.

  4. The three (3) best educators will be awarded a Trophy of Recognition and a cash prize*. The first prize winner will receive PhP 25,000; second prize, PhP 15,000; and third prize, PhP 10,000. In the event that the financial educator wins in both the Lesson Plan Competition and the Pru Life UK Financial Literacy Educator Award, he/she will only be recognized in the Financial Literacy Educator Award and will receive the higher cash prize.

  5. Deadline for submission of applications and nominations is on October 13, 2017, Friday, at 11:59 p.m. Kindly email your submissions to chaching.philippines@gmail.com in Microsoft Word document format, using, “Financial Literacy Educator Award_Name of School” as the subject line. Supporting documents such as written testimonials, pictures, class reports, and work samples must be scanned and sent via email. Videos and recordings may be sent as email attachments. Please keep the original files in case these documents are needed for verification. In case the attachments are voluminous, you may send the entire application and photocopies of supporting documents/attachments to the address below. We should receive the package not later than October 13, 2017 – end of business hours at 5pm.

Lesson Plan Competition

The overall goal of the lesson plan competition is to provide an opportunity for teachers to share their knowledge and expertise in preparing an effective lesson plan that features the four money smart concepts of the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Program of earn, save, spend and donate.

Contest Mechanics

  1. Qualified participants are Grade 4 teachers from public and private elementary schools currently implementing the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Program. Each entry should be authored by only one (1) teacher.
  2. The lesson plan should discuss one (1) money smart value only. Select from the following values: earn, save, spend, and donate.
  3. All entries should follow the prescribed template provided. Entries must not exceed five (5) pages using short bond paper. Use Times New Roman, size 11, and double spacing in Microsoft Word document format.
  4. For the entry to qualify, the certification at the last page should be duly signed by the author and certified by the school principal.
  5. Criteria for judging will be:
    40% - Adherence to Cha-Ching money smart principles
    30% - Quality of student activities with focus on project-based approaches
    20% - Usefulness to classroom application
    10% - Student assessment strategy
    For a total of 100%
  6. The top three (3) best entries will be awarded a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize*. The first prize winner will receive PhP 7,000; second prize, PhP 6,000; and third prize, PhP 5,000. In the event that the author wins in both the Lesson Plan Competition and the Pru Life UK Financial Literacy Educator Award, he/she will only be recognized in the Financial Literacy Educator Award and will receive the higher cash prize.

Cha-Ching Poster Competition for Students 2017

The poster competition provides an opportunity for students to express the financial literacy concepts they have learned in class through art. The theme for this year is “Ways I help my family save money”.

Contest Mechanics

  1. The poster entry must be certified original and hand-drawn by a Grade 4 student belonging to a school currently implementing the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Program. The poster should clearly portray or illustrate the student’s response to the contest theme: “Ways I spend my money wisely.”
  2. An entry can only be submitted and worked on by one (1) student. The posters must be drawn horizontally on a white sheet of paper, not smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches and not larger than 9 x 12 inches. Students are encouraged to use thick paper such as white cartolina (cut to specified size), oslo paper, or white drawing paper. Posters should not be laminated or mounted on a mat board. Submissions which do not follow the guidelines will be automatically disqualified.
  3. Students may use a variety of materials to color their illustrations such as watercolor, pen and ink, crayons, markers, etc. Keep in mind that the winning posters may be reproduced or reprinted so it is recommended that entries have large graphic illustrations that can be viewed from at least a distance of five (5) feet.
  4. Judging criteria: Posters will be judged based on the students’ artistry, creativity, originality, and ability to communicate a clear and positive message to encourage Filipino youth to be money-smart.

    Clarity of message (40%) – Is the poster able to clearly convey the student’s response to the
    contest theme? Was the student’s response on how he/she spends money wisely aligned to
    the Cha-Ching values of how and why we should wisely spend our money?

    Quality of artwork (30%) – Did the student use the appropriate graphic images and color to
    convey the money-smart concept?

    Originality/Creativity (20%) – How much originality does the poster demonstrate in
    illustrating money-smart concepts?

    Neatness (10%) – Is the workmanship good?
    Total – 100%
  5. Participating schools may submit a maximum of three (3) entries made by Grade 4 level students. Each submission must include a signed conforme from the legal parent or guardian of the participant. Please see the attached conforme on the 4 th page.
  6. The front of the poster must not contain any identifying marks such as the name of the student or of the school. Each entry must be labeled with a 3x5 index card attached to the back of the poster using adhesive tape (do not staple). Each index card must contain the following information:
    • Title of entry
    • Concept/s illustrated in the poster
    • Student’s complete name
    • Grade level
    • Complete school name
    • Complete name of teacher handling Cha-Ching
    • Complete name and signature of school principal
  7. All entries must arrive by October 13, 2017, Friday – end of business hours at 5pm. They must be sent to our office via mail or courier service.
